Sauma thank you for being such a wonderful member of Room 4. We all had so many things to say about you because you are so kind and caring to us all. We hope you will remember these comments for years to come.

Today we held our compliments project once again. This is something we love doing in our mornings as it sets our day up really well. This morning we wrote one for Sauma.

Hand Soccer
This afternoon Room 4 decided to look after their Taha Tinana (and in doing so, supporting the other aspects of their health too)! We have had a full on week full of tests, which has been a little stressful and we noticed we needed some more self care.
In response we headed to the hall this afternoon. We played a game called pass the squeeze to get us all feel connected and positive, before splitting into two teams. Each team had to play a game of soccer using only one hand and score a 'goal' by hitting the ball through the posts. This was such a laugh - especially when the ball seemed to have a mind of its own.

Some of us were a little reluctant to exercise at first, but we soon realised how important it is to get out and get moving! Once we were playing we were all having a good old laugh. This is a great lesson for life too - it's so good to get moving, especially if it is with others. What do you do to take care of your wellbeing after a full on week or day?

Spread Kindness
Today in Hauora we discussed stereotypes and the messages that we hear in the media, pop culture and society. We discussed that stereotypes are generalisations about a group, similar to labels. We watched this speech by Joshua Iosefa on the topic.
Then it was time to give compliments and say positive things instead! We launched into our second kindness project session, this time about Jane and Jahzara. Check out the lesson in action:

Compliments Project
Today we learnt about the compliments project. We discussed how giving and receiving compliments make us feel good; they contribute to our taha hinengaro and taha whanau.
It can sometimes feel awkward giving people compliments, sometimes we make jokes instead of telling people how we really feel. To get us used to complimenting others, we took part in the compliments project.
We had one student (Jacob) leave the room while we filled up the whiteboard with compliments for him. It was awesome seeing his reaction when he read what we had to say about him.

Te Whare Tapa Wha
Room four have been beginning to learn about health and Te Whare Tapa Wha. So far we have discussed the idea of health and the different ways that we can look after our wellbeing. Check out Pauline's image for more information about Te Whare Tapa Wha:

Mindfulness
This afternoon we participated in some mindful colouring. We played soft, relaxing music quietly in the background as we coloured in our independent spots. This really helped us to relax and focus after a very busy lunchtime.
We got the idea from Rimu Class at Yaldhurst Model School and we realised that one of our teachers, Mrs Bush is an expert in mindfulness! Next we would like to try Mindful eating, it sounds like fun!
