SSR

Every afternoon in team five we spend time doing SSR or sustained silent reading. We have our own bookmarks and are each working towards completing a chapter book. We also read fiction texts when we need a break from our chapter book.

We made this video for our school news network to share our love of reading with our school.

Triangle Numbers (Pisirina)

Today we focussed on doing patterns. We discovered triangle numbers. We also learnt that there can be several patterns and number patterns in anything. In this triangle we found many patterns such  as the Triangle numbers and in the sum of each line we found a pattern too.

Triangle numbers are the numbers that make triangles of different sizes. We imagined them as if we were stacking cups into pyramids. Every time the pyramid gets bigger the base increases by one - the first has a base size of 1, then 2, then 3 and so on.

I learnt that even a pattern like 1, 2, 3, 4 and so on can be a pattern too. Also to sometimes forget about the image and focus on the number to find out the rule and to just explore with maths.

Prime Numbers

This week in maths we learned about prime numbers. Prime numbers can only be divided by themselves and one. We also learned about Factors. See Victoria's work above!

Room 11 (4) Maths!

Today was the first time that we met our maths classes. Things were a little bit different for room 4 maths as they actually have maths in a different, but bigger classroom: room 11.

We spent the time working on our class norms. We completed a few activities to improve our team building. At first we struggled a little, but by the end of the lesson we were communicating really well.

We first practiced our listening by completing a building challenge. Mrs Stone constructed a building out of lego and in our groups we had to recreate it. However, only one person from each group could look at Mrs Stone's building at a time and they were not allowed to touch the pieces! Instead they had to tell their teammates what to do.

We also put together some quite tricky 100 piece puzzles which involved a lot of perseverance and collaboration!

Welcome to Room 4 Literacy

Mrs Stone was blown away this morning by her fantastic literacy learners. They had excellent communication, co-operation and collaboration.

We started the lesson by discussing our class norms and some things that we value in a class. We then experimented by completing some activities to see which values were most important.

In our first activity we had to stand on a tarpaulin and flip it over without touching the ground. We did a fantastic job of this! We realised that communication was key to this challenge; we needed to discuss a strategy and work together to carry it out.

We then got into our reading groups and practiced working together. We did some collaborative activities (we all worked together on the same task) and some cooperative activities (we each had our own task to complete to accomplish a shared goal).

Class Treaty

Today we worked more on our class treaty. First we had a class discussion about what we want our class to look, feel and be like. We talked a lot about respect, but then took us on to talking about our attitudes, ability to work with others and the way we want to listen and share.

With these values in mind, we had a challenge! This tested our ability to respect each other, work as a team and to communicate.

We did a great job working together, but we realised that respect property might be another important value to add as things got messy!

So we came up with: respect for self/others, respect property, active listening, positive attitude and teamwork as our treaty principles. Can you guess which picture links with which value?

Our First Day 2020

Today was our first day together in our Room 4 home class. We are a lively bunch of 33 students who are excited to get started with our learning for the year!

Today we simply focussed on the idea of respect; to respect each other, our 6 teachers and the other people who are here to support us.

We practiced this by taking part in a few activities that required us to work positively with others.
