One Team!

After spending time apart with the year 8 camp and year 7 step up programme, it is important for us to get back together and enjoy being a class.

To support this, on Monday we had sharing time where we each had the opportunity to get up and discuss our experiences over the past week. It was great for the year sevens in particular, who now have a better idea of what to expect at camp.

We then completed some team building activities as a class, where we put our learning from camp and the step up programme into action. It was so good to see that everyone was happy to work with each other and we had a great laugh!

Year 8 Camp Day 1

Today was the first day of year 8 camp 2020. It is an absolute blessing that we have made it here to Thames, as we were originally booked to go in May (in the lockdown!). It is our fourth year coming to Kauaeranga Christian Camp and we always have a fantastic time.
On day one we played Cross Games (team building activities in the gym) and had our first rotation of activities. On day 2 we have 6 more rotations, so tomorrow will be a very action packed day! Check out this short movie to see what we have got up to on our first day, the very start of our amazing camp experience.

Team 5 Garage Sale 2020

Next week is our Year 8 camp so to fundraise, we held a garage sale in the weekend. We had a variety of things to sell from our very popular bake sale, Mrs Flavelle's bric a brac table as well as our usual cheese toasties, hot dogs and hot and cold drinks sale.
We were also joined by many other vendors who packed out our hall with many different things to buy. Sands and Talitha groups had a lolly stall as well as chop suey and potato salad, Whaea Saff had deliciously hot mussel chowder and fried bread and even Team 4 teachers had a stall! They were selling yummy pulled pork buns and waffles.

Mrs Ilaoa's sister had beautiful succulent plants and Tamaki College had clocks that students made out of vinyl CD's.

Overall a very successful day for our Team 5 campers and a great day connecting with our community. Thank you to everyone who contributed to our bake sale and who came along to buy lots of goodies.

Year 8 Camp

Last week the year eights went to Kauaeranga Valley Christian Camp. The camp was focussed on leadership and helped us to step up and become more confident.

We had a mixture of camp activities like go karts and air rifles, as well as workshops around leadership values. We first practiced 'following the leader' and working as a team, before we learnt about becoming leaders ourselves. We considered the things that we say (first to ourselves, then towards others) and things that we do to lead effectively.

We used the metaphor of the awhi rito - when we are young we are the centre of the awhi rito, with our teachers, families and caregivers looking after us as the outer leaves. As we grow older, take more responsibility and lead we move further away from the centre.

Throughout the week more and more students stepped up to show their leadership. It was amazing to see everyones confidence grow and we all learnt something new about each other.

Last week the year eights headed to Kauaeranga Christian Camp in Thames for three days. It was an amazing opportunity and we all experienced so many new things, from shooting to archery!

Garage Sale

As part of our fundraising for Year 8 camp, Team 5 have their annual garage sale and this year we had it on Saturday 24th March. What a beautiful day it turned out to be with students turning up at 7.30am to help put their stalls together.

We had a long table filled with deliciously home made cakes, pineapple pies, cup cakes, muffins, cookies and some wonderfully made otai to quench the thirst. A candy floss stand was also a favourite for the kids. Parents got to enjoy some yummy seafood chowder made by Roz while our students were being great sales reps at the cheese toasties and hot dogs dogs.

It was great to see Josephine Bartley and Mrs Tele'a join us along with our Pt England babies.

We could go on and on but take a look at our video below to see more of our fun filled day.

A huge THANK YOU to our Pt England families and the wider community for coming down and supporting our students in their fundraising efforts.

We raised $1700!!! This is absolutely fantastic and will go towards our Year 8 Camp in Thames Valley.
